In the search for a new head coach, the Carolina Panthers are reportedly turning their attention to Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Panthers are scheduled to interview Johnson for the position.
Johnson, 36, took over as the Eagles' offensive coordinator this season, following the departure of Shane Steichen, who became the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. Despite the Eagles struggling towards the end of the season, losing five out of their last six games, the team finished with impressive rankings of 7th in points scored and 8th in total yards.
Prior to his role as offensive coordinator, Johnson served as the quarterbacks coach for the Eagles from 2021-2022. He also brings valuable experience from his time as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Florida in 2020. In addition, Johnson has worked as an offensive assistant at several esteemed college programs, including Houston, Mississippi State, and Utah.
The Panthers are currently in need of a new head coach and general manager after the midseason firing of Frank Reich and the recent departure of Scott Fitterer. With their focus on hiring from successful playoff teams, the Panthers are expressing interest in Johnson's strategic acumen and ability to oversee a potent offensive unit.
As the interview process continues, the Panthers will carefully evaluate Johnson's qualifications and vision for the team's future. With a strong offensive background and the potential to bring fresh ideas and innovation to the franchise, Johnson could prove to be a promising candidate to lead the Panthers onto a successful path in the seasons to come.
