Packers Fall to Vikings 24-10, PFF Grades Reveal Top Performers and Struggles

The Green Bay Packers endured a disappointing loss to the Minnesota Vikings, with a final score of 24-10 at Lambeau Field on Sunday. Despite a strong effort from the Packers' defense, Kirk Cousins and the Vikings' offense proved to be too formidable. Pro Football Focus (PFF) grades shed light on the best and worst performers from the Packers' Week 8 matchup against the Vikings.
According to PFF grades, LG Elgton Jenkins emerged as the top performer for the Packers with an impressive grade of 76.5. Jenkins showcased his elite pass-blocking skills by not giving up any pressure over 54 pass-blocking snaps. RT Zach Tom followed closely with a grade of 68.4, excelling as the offensive line's highest-graded run blocker despite surrendering four pressures, including a sack. RB A.J. Dillon earned a solid grade of 64.2 by displaying excellent pass-blocking abilities and catching all five of his targets for 41 yards. QB Jordan Love received a grade of 63.7, showcasing a 70.0 adjusted completion percentage and effectiveness against blitzes. WR Dontayvion Wicks rounded up the top performers with a grade of 63.4, contributing two catches and excelling as a run blocker.
On the defensive end, OLB Preston Smith earned an elite grade of 92.8, making a significant impact with five pressures, two sacks, two QB hits, and a forced fumble-turned-takeaway. DL Devonte Wyatt impressed with a grade of 89.6, recording three pressures, a run stop, and a fumble recovery. DL TJ Slaton received a grade of 82.3, delivering a career-high seven stops against the run. LB De'Vondre Campbell showcased his return from an ankle injury with five stops and a QB hit, earning a grade of 78.8. DL Colby Wooden rounded up the top performers, contributing one pressure and one run stop over 14 snaps with a grade of 75.7. The Packers' defense garnered 19 tackles classified as "stops" by PFF, indicating successful defensive plays.
While several players stood out positively, there were also those who struggled. TE Josiah Deguara received the lowest grade of 40.9, primarily due to poor run-blocking and missed blocks. TE Tucker Kraft followed closely with a grade of 41.0, also struggling in run-blocking and not receiving any targets. LT Rasheed Walker earned a grade of 53.0, penalized twice and giving up a sack, with a low run-blocking rating. RB Aaron Jones, who fumbled once and dropped a pass, received a grade of 54.2, while C Josh Myers earned a grade of 54.6, surrendering three pressures and performing poorly in the run game.
On the defensive side, DL Karl Brooks earned the lowest grade of 41.2, particularly struggling in run defense. CB Rasul Douglas received a grade of 47.4 after allowing five catches for 83 yards on six targets, along with a penalty. OLB Rashan Gary was graded at 50.4, despite contributing a QB hit and a run stop, he was penalized for roughing the passer. S Jonathan Owens received a grade of 54.2, allowing three catches for 33 yards and a touchdown in coverage. CB Jaire Alexander, graded at 55.0, was responsible for six catches, 64 yards, and a touchdown, and missed two tackles.
In terms of special teams, DL Karl Brooks earned the highest grade after successfully blocking a field goal. Tucker Kraft, Corey Ballentine, and Carrington Valentine also made special teams tackles. However, Ballentine was flagged for a false start, and Valentine missed a tackle. Veteran Eric Wilson also had a missed tackle and committed a holding penalty. Daniel Whelan received his lowest punting grade of the season, with three of his four punts resulting in returns.
Despite the disappointing loss, there were notable performances and areas that require improvement for the Packers. The team will aim to bounce back in their upcoming games as they seek to regain their winning momentum.
