GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Green Bay Packers linebacker De'Vondre Campbell has been granted some time off from practice by coach Matt LaFleur to allow him to "get his body back" after expressing his unwillingness to play injured on social media.

Following Campbell's post on Wednesday, Coach LaFleur acknowledged his player's frustration and held a meeting with him. LaFleur understood that Campbell, who has missed games this season and has been battling injuries, felt frustrated and not at his best due to health reasons. In an effort to assess Campbell's condition, the Packers have decided to give him the week off, with the possibility of reevaluating his status afterward.

Campbell was absent from Wednesday's practice session and was included on the injury report this time due to a neck injury, the same ailment that had previously benched him for a game last month. Additionally, Campbell had missed three games earlier in the season due to an ankle injury.

While Campbell played in the Packers' last three games, he and the entire defense faced difficulties during their recent loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The subpar performance intensified scrutiny on defensive coordinator Joe Barry, but Coach LaFleur made it clear on Monday that there would be no mid-season coaching changes.

In response to the mounting pressure, Campbell took to social media to express his frustrations, stating, "Not going out my way anymore and I'm not playing through injuries anymore cause when s--- goes wrong they always use it against you. I'm treating everyone accordingly and giving them the same energy they giving me. Focus on yourself and your mental 59 you owe it to yourself."

When asked about the intent of his post, Campbell refused to elaborate, stating, "I'm not answering no questions about nothing that happened on the internet." He redirected the focus towards the upcoming game against the Panthers.

Campbell, who was named an All-Pro in the 2021 season and was also nominated for the NFL's Walter Payton Man of the Year award, has been recognized by LaFleur and others as a leader on the Packers' defense. Despite the current situation, LaFleur emphasized his utmost respect for Campbell and highlighted his dedication to the game and his rigorous preparation.

While concerns may arise regarding the impact of Campbell's post on team dynamics, LaFleur revealed that he did not sense any negative effects in the locker room. He noted the players' strong energy levels and competitiveness during practice, emphasizing their commitment to the game.

As the Packers (6-8) desperately fight for a playoff spot, all eyes will be on Campbell and the team's response as they gear up for a crucial game against the Panthers this Sunday.
