Multiple members of the Michigan football coaching staff are making the leap to the NFL, as defensive analyst Doug Mallory and graduate assistant Dylan Roney are reportedly joining professional teams. Mallory is set to become the defensive backs coach for the Baltimore Ravens, while Roney is expected to join former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh with the Los Angeles Chargers.
According to a report from 247Sports, Mallory will assume the role of defensive backs coach for the Ravens, following the departure of their previous coach Denard Wilson. Mallory's experience as a former player under Bo Schembechler, his time with the Atlanta Falcons, and his coaching roles with various other teams have prepared him for this position. Mallory has spent the last three seasons in Ann Arbor, assisting defensive coordinator Jesse Minter in game preparations.
Roney, known for his work with Michigan's edge rushers, will join Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers. While his specific role with the Chargers is yet to be determined, it is expected that Roney will continue to showcase his skills and expertise working alongside Minter, who holds him in high regard.
Michigan fans will be keeping a close eye on head coach Sherrone Moore as he looks to fill the vacancies left by Mallory and Roney. Moore recently announced several key coaching appointments, including offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell, offensive line coach Grant Newsome, tight ends coach Steve Casula, special teams coordinator J.B. Brown, and strength and conditioning coach Justin Tress. However, there are still positions to be filled, and Maize n Brew will continue to provide updates on the coaching staff's progression.
With Mallory and Roney joining the NFL coaching ranks, it showcases the prowess and talent of the Michigan football program in developing skilled coaches. The Wolverines will bid farewell to two valuable members of their coaching staff, while also looking forward to the new opportunities that lie ahead for both Mallory and Roney in the professional league.
