In a surprising turn of events, the Las Vegas Raiders have reportedly found their new offensive coordinator in Luke Getsy, the former Chicago Bears' OC who was recently let go by the Bears. Getsy, 39, was part of a pool of five candidates being considered for the position under head coach Antonio Pierce.

After Kliff Kingsbury withdrew himself from the running, the Raiders turned their attention to Getsy, who has experience in running a successful rushing offense. Pierce emphasized his desire for an offensive coordinator who could help the team excel in the running game.

During his tenure with the Bears and working with quarterback Justin Fields, Getsy helmed an offense that led the NFL in rushing in 2022, averaging an impressive 177.3 yards per game. The team continued to have success on the ground last season, finishing second in the league with an average of 141.1 rushing yards per game. However, the Bears struggled in the passing game, ranking last in 2022 with only 177.3 passing yards per game and 27th in 2023 with 182.1 yards per game.

The decision to hire Getsy comes after the Raiders saw three different starting quarterbacks in the 2023 season - Jimmy Garappolo with six starts, Aidan O'Connell with ten starts, and Brian Hoyer with one start. With a need for stability at the quarterback position, there have been reports suggesting that the Raiders could potentially trade for Justin Fields, who expressed dissatisfaction with the coaching staff in Chicago.

The Bears, who hold the No. 1 pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, have opted to retain head coach Matt Eberflus but have made changes to their offensive coaching staff. This move led to Getsy being let go, opening up the opportunity for him to join the Raiders.

While there is excitement surrounding Getsy's ability to coordinate a successful rushing attack, questions linger about his capability to improve the Raiders' passing game. However, with the Raiders in search of a fresh start, they are hopeful that Getsy can bring a winning approach to their offensive strategy.

As the Raiders prepare for the upcoming season, the addition of Getsy as their new offensive coordinator could signal a shift towards a more balanced and dynamic offensive scheme. Fans eagerly await the implementation of Getsy's playbook and the potential impact it could have on the team's performance in the 2024 season.
