In an eventful week for Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, not only is he preparing for his team's divisional round game against the Buccaneers, but he has also secured two head-coaching interviews slated for this Friday.
According to sources, the Carolina Panthers have scheduled an interview with Johnson, as reported by Joe Person of TheAthletic.com. Additionally, the Commanders have also set up an interview with Johnson, as revealed by Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post.
Johnson is considered a top contender for the Carolina head coaching position, and interestingly, he was also viewed as a favorite last year before making the surprising decision to withdraw his candidacy and remain in Detroit.
At 37 years old, if Johnson secures a head coaching role, he would become the youngest head coach in the NFL. Currently, that title belongs to Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo, who is only three months older than Johnson.
The interviews come at a crucial time for Johnson, as he looks to make the leap from offensive coordinator to head coach. His experience leading the Lions' offense has clearly caught the attention of both the Panthers and the Commanders, who are eager to explore the potential of having Johnson at the helm of their respective teams.
As the interviews draw near, all eyes will be on Johnson to see if he can impress the decision-makers and secure his first head coaching position in the NFL. The outcomes of these interviews will not only shape Johnson's future but also have a significant impact on the direction of the Carolina Panthers and the Commanders.
