In an unexpected move, the Dallas Cowboys have decided to bring back offensive lineman La'el Collins, 17 months after releasing him from the team. According to Todd Archer of ESPN, the Cowboys have signed Collins to their practice squad after conducting a workout on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old lineman suffered a devastating injury last season while playing for the Cincinnati Bengals. Collins tore both his ACL and MCL, which led to his release from the reserve/physically unable to perform list by the Bengals in September.
Collins has been actively seeking opportunities to continue his football career, having recently worked out with the Buffalo Bills. Prior to that, he also had workouts with the New York Jets and New York Giants in October.
Before his departure from Dallas, Collins spent his first six seasons with the Cowboys, starting in 71 games for the club. Beginning as a left guard, he eventually transitioned to the right tackle position.
Following his release from the Cowboys, Collins signed with the Cincinnati Bengals during the 2022 offseason. Unfortunately, his time with the team was cut short due to the significant knee injury he suffered.
Now, with his return to the Cowboys' practice squad, Collins has the opportunity to prove himself once again. The practice squad provides a platform for him to showcase his skills and potentially earn a spot on the active roster in the future.
It remains to be seen how Collins will perform after his injury and time away from the game, but the Cowboys' decision to bring him back shows confidence in his ability to contribute to the team. As the season progresses, fans will eagerly watch to see if Collins can regain his form and make a successful comeback in Dallas.
