Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins underwent a successful surgery on his torn right Achilles, the team announced on Wednesday. The operation, performed by Dr. Chris Coetzee at Twin Cities Orthopedics in Eagan, Minnesota, was deemed a success.

Cousins expressed his gratitude for the support and prayers he has received in a health update he shared on social media. In the post, he thanked Dr. Coetzee and the medical team, while also asking for continued prayers as he begins the recovery process.

As is common with Achilles repairs, Cousins was seen in a cast, which is typically required for three to four weeks of immobilization. Medical experts state that patients usually need six to nine months to fully recover, which includes the ability to resume activities like running and jumping. However, these timelines can vary for high-level athletes who have access to advanced rehabilitation options and treatments.

The news of Cousins' successful surgery prompted an outpouring of support from his teammates. Star wide receiver Justin Jefferson took to social media, expressing his love and support for his fellow teammate. Long snapper Andrew DePaola also shared Cousins' post, expressing optimism for a legendary comeback.

Prior to his injury, Cousins had been having a promising season. He suffered the Achilles injury during the team's victory over the Green Bay Packers, halting his progress in what could have been a breakthrough year. Cousins had thrown 18 touchdown passes through Week 8, tying for the league lead, and ranked second in passing yards with 2,331.

With Cousins set to become a free agent in the upcoming offseason, his future remains uncertain. The Vikings officially placed him on injured reserve, signaling that he will be out for the rest of the season. Head coach Kevin O'Connell expressed his admiration for Cousins' abilities and the hope for a resolution regarding his future with the team.

Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons will see rookie quarterback Jaren Hall making his first NFL start in Cousins' absence. In addition, the Vikings acquired Josh Dobbs from the Arizona Cardinals prior to the NFL trade deadline on Monday.

The stage is now set for Cousins' inspirational comeback as he begins his journey towards recovery. Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, his teammates and fans remain hopeful that Cousins will return to the field stronger than ever.
