In a recent wild-card game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Detroit Lions, Kelly Stafford, wife of Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, expressed her disappointment over the treatment her children received from fans. Despite enjoying the atmosphere of her return to Detroit, Kelly was disheartened when she heard boos directed at her four young daughters.
The incident unfolded when a fan commented "f Detroit" under a photo of the Stafford family hugging on the sidelines at Ford Field. The individual seemed to be referencing the boos that Matthew Stafford received when he ran onto the field before the game. Kelly took to her Instagram Story to address the fan's comment, stating, "Enough with the Detroit love, they showed their true colors f them."
The significance of the Staffords' return to Detroit cannot be overstated. All four of their daughters were born in the city during Matthew's 12-year tenure with the Lions before he was traded to the Rams in January 2021. It was also Matthew's first time back at Ford Field since the blockbuster trade.
While Kelly acknowledged that booing is a part of sports and the city's desire to win, she condemned the fans who directed their negativity towards her children. She added that despite the boos, the atmosphere fueled Matthew's motivation to perform even better.
Expressing love for Detroit, Kelly stated that she hopes the Lions bring home a Lombardi trophy to the city because winning a championship creates an unparalleled feeling. Meanwhile, in another post, she commended her husband for his dedication to the game and expressed her excitement for the upcoming season, confident that the Rams will bounce back.
The Rams finished the regular season with a 10-7 record and experienced a disappointing loss in Detroit, ending their playoff run. Matthew Stafford, despite playing with a bandaged hand due to an injury suffered in a previous game, had an impressive performance, completing 25-of-36 passes for 367 yards and two touchdowns.
Kelly also shared her enthusiasm for returning to Detroit with her family, posting pictures of their visit to Stafford Field at the Lipke Rec Center, which was donated by Matthew's Score 7 foundation in partnership with the city of Detroit and S.A.Y. Detroit in 2015.
Having adjusted well to life in sunny California, where they won the Super Bowl championship at SoFi Stadium in 2022, the Staffords faced a challenging season, with Matthew sitting out the conclusion of the year due to a spinal cord contusion. Unfortunately, the Rams missed the playoffs, finishing with a disappointing 5-12 record.
Despite the ups and downs, Kelly's love for the game and her excitement for the team's future remain unwavering. As the offseason commences, the Staffords look forward to the next chapter, hopeful that the Rams will come back stronger in the next season.
