Despite the frigid forecast and dangerously cold temperatures expected in Kansas City, the playoff game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins will proceed as scheduled at Arrowhead Stadium. The decision comes after the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers' game was rescheduled due to adverse weather conditions.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas addressed concerns about rescheduling the Chiefs-Dolphins game, asserting that the city was well-prepared for the extreme weather. The National Weather Service had issued warnings for "dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills" throughout the day and evening in Kansas City, with temperatures predicted to plummet to -2 degrees Fahrenheit by 7 p.m. CT, accompanied by a wind chill of -24.

Mayor Lucas acknowledged the importance of emergency crews and first responders being equipped for winter storms, expressing his hopes for the safety of the Buffalo and Western New York communities. Despite facing challenging temperatures, Kansas City assured its readiness for the playoff game, downtown events, and emergency needs arising from the cold. The city encouraged residents to remain safe and access assistance resources as necessary.

The game is anticipated to become one of the coldest in NFL history. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET, with temperatures similar to those experienced in the historical "Ice Bowl" of 1967. During that game between the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys, the temperature reached -13 degrees Fahrenheit, with a bone-chilling wind chill of -48.

In 2016, the Minnesota Vikings played in the third-coldest game in NFL history, which saw temperatures at kickoff dropping to -6 degrees Fahrenheit, with a wind chill of -25. The game took place at TCF Bank Stadium and was a wild-card matchup.

As football fans gear up for the intense clash between the Chiefs and Dolphins, they are advised to bundle up, stay safe, and make use of available resources to combat the extreme cold. The city of Kansas City expresses gratitude to the dedicated city workers, first responders, and social services agencies who are diligently working to ensure the safety and well-being of all during this period of extremely cold weather.
