In a highly anticipated matchup, the Detroit Lions will face the Chicago Bears on Sunday, with quarterback Justin Fields set to make his return from injury. The Lions' defense, particularly their ability to contain opposing quarterbacks, is under scrutiny heading into this game.

While the Lions' secondary has shown signs of improvement, the same cannot be said for their pass rush. Aidan Hutchinson has been effective in pressuring quarterbacks, but lacks support to finish the job, resulting in throwaways rather than sacks. This weakness is likely to play into the hands of Fields, known for his elusiveness and ability to extend plays.

Last year, in two encounters against the Lions, Fields shredded their defense on the ground, accumulating a total of 279 rushing yards. With the current struggle to contain mobile quarterbacks, it is anticipated that Fields will exploit this weakness and utilize his legs to make key plays.

Although Fields has not been running as frequently this season, this game presents an opportune moment for him to revert to his running style. Returning from a month-long absence due to injury, Fields may not have regained complete chemistry with his receivers, potentially leading him to rely more heavily on his running ability. Additionally, his thumb injury is not believed to have affected his physical fitness, if anything, it may further encourage him to utilize his legs.

The Lions' defensive efforts should not be undermined, with the secondary displaying tremendous improvement. Defensive backs Kerby Joseph and Jerry Jacobs have been exceptional in creating turnovers, while linebacker Alex Anzalone has excelled in coverage. However, the ultimate test lies in the hands of the defensive line, who must keep Fields contained throughout the game. Nevertheless, given the Lions' struggles in this area, it remains to be seen if they can effectively limit Fields' rushing impact.

As Sunday's clash approaches, all eyes will be on how the Lions defense handles the dual-threat abilities of Justin Fields. The outcome of this game may hinge on their ability to contain Fields on the ground, and it is a challenge that cannot be overlooked. While the Lions have shown signs of improvement in certain aspects of their defense, it remains to be seen if they can rise to the occasion and stifle Fields, or if the talented young quarterback will have a field day exploiting their weakness.
