In a surprising move, the New York Yankees have traded first baseman/outfielder Jake Bauers to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for minor league outfielders Jace Avina and Brian Sánchez. The trade was announced on Friday, shaking up the rosters of both teams.

Bauers, who is 28 years old, had a mixed performance in the 2021 season for the Yankees. In 84 games and 272 plate appearances, he recorded a batting average of .202 with 12 home runs and 30 RBIs. Bauers was called up to the team on April 29 as a replacement for injured player Aaron Judge and contributed significantly during his playing time.

Having played for four different teams in his four major league seasons, including Tampa Bay (2018), Cleveland (2019, 2021), Seattle (2021), and the Yankees, Bauers holds a career batting average of .211 with 309 home runs and 140 RBIs in 412 games.

With Bauers being eligible for arbitration, it is anticipated that he will receive a salary between $1.5 million and $1.75 million for the upcoming season.

As part of the trade, the Yankees acquired two talented young outfield prospects from the Brewers. Jace Avina, a 20-year-old outfielder, showcased his skills in the 2021 season with Class A Carolina, batting .233 with 14 home runs, 50 RBIs, and 10 stolen bases. Avina was drafted by the Brewers in the 14th round of the 2021 MLB Draft.

The Yankees also received 19-year-old Brian Sánchez, who played with the Dominican Summer League Brewers this year. Sanchez boasted an impressive batting average of .297, with 7 doubles and 4 triples over 33 games.

The trade between the Yankees and the Brewers signifies a strategic move for both teams. While the Yankees part ways with Bauers, they gain promising young talent in Avina and Sánchez who could potentially contribute to their future success. On the other hand, the Brewers acquire a seasoned player in Bauers, who brings a solid track record and experience to their roster.

Only time will tell how this trade will impact both the Yankees and the Brewers as they prepare for the upcoming season. Fans will eagerly await the performance of the new acquisitions and watch as their respective teams strive for success in the 2022 season.
