In a case of déjà vu, the Kansas City Chiefs find themselves heading into the Super Bowl with injury concerns just like they did last year. While quarterback Patrick Mahomes is healthy this season, the team is dealing with a few notable injuries that could impact their performance in the upcoming matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

One key absence for the Chiefs will be All-Pro left guard Joe Thuney, who will miss the Super Bowl due to a pectoral strain. Head coach Andy Reid confirmed Thuney's unavailability, citing his lack of strength as the main reason for concern. Thuney's absence poses a significant challenge for the Chiefs' offensive line, as they will have to rely on offensive lineman Nick Allegretti to step up and fill in his shoes. However, Allegretti has shown promise in the AFC Championship game when he filled in for Thuney.

Another concern for the Chiefs is the possible absence of running back Jerick McKinnon. McKinnon carries a questionable designation to play in the Super Bowl after logging limited practice sessions this week. Although he returned to practice after undergoing sports hernia surgery in January, it is unlikely that he will be able to participate fully in the game.

Defensively, the Chiefs will also be without defensive end Charles Omenihu, who suffered a torn ACL early in the AFC Championship game. Losing Omenihu will undoubtedly be a challenge for the Chiefs' defense, but they have a strong roster, versatility, and veteran leadership to overcome this setback.

On the other hand, the San Francisco 49ers enter the Super Bowl with minimal injury concerns. Star players such as tight end George Kittle, offensive lineman Trent Williams, and defensive lineman Arik Armstead all logged full practice sessions and don't carry any injury designations into the game. This is a positive sign for the 49ers, who have experienced their fair share of injury troubles in recent seasons.

Defensive tackle Kalia Davis, who is currently on injured reserve, carries a questionable designation to play in the Super Bowl. Davis is recovering from a high ankle sprain suffered in Week 15, and his potential return would provide a boost to the 49ers' defensive line.

It is worth noting that notable players on injured reserve for the 49ers include safety Talanoa Hufunga and tight end Ross Dwelley. However, both of them will not be available for the Super Bowl.

As the Super Bowl approaches, the health concerns of both teams become crucial factors to consider. While the Chiefs have several injury concerns, they have the advantage of championship experience and veteran leadership to overcome these obstacles. The 49ers, on the other hand, enter the game at near full health, which could give them an edge in this highly anticipated showdown.

In the end, it will be a battle between the Chiefs' resilience and the 49ers' relative health as they vie for the ultimate prize in football.
