In a thrilling matchup on Sunday, the Houston Texans defeated the Arizona Cardinals with a final score of 21-16, thanks to their impressive defensive performance. The Texans' defense, led by coach DeMeco Ryans, showcased their knowledge of Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, ultimately slamming the door on multiple offensive efforts.
Texans defensive end Will Anderson credited their success to Ryans' previous experiences with the San Francisco 49ers, who face the Cardinals twice a year. Anderson noted that their familiarity with the Cardinals' strategies proved to be vital in their game plan.
"It helped us a lot because we've seen a lot of things," Anderson explained. "Of course, we run the same defense, so we've seen a lot of things like, 'Oh, ok, this is what they did here.' We're going to try to go out there and do it differently this time since we run the same defense, and we know what they did last time. It was really fun to see."
One of the key factors in the Texans' victory was their ability to contain Murray. Anderson praised the team's concerted efforts to pursue the elusive quarterback and maintain discipline in their pass rush lanes.
"I thought we did a really good job of containing most of the game," Anderson remarked. "I thought we rushed as a group. I think that's one big thing that we always want to focus on is all four guys rushing as one and having a good time and having fun doing it. I think everybody was very selfless and rushing today and knowing what we were up against."
The Texans' victory was crucial in avoiding a potential trap game and improved their record to 6-4. A win against the Jacksonville Jaguars in their upcoming game on Sunday would propel the Texans into first place in the AFC South.
The Houston Texans' strong defensive performance, fueled by their knowledge of Murray and the Cardinals' tendencies, proved to be the deciding factor in their victory. With their sights set on taking over the top spot in their division, the Texans are poised to continue their success in the coming weeks.
