The San Francisco Giants continue to strengthen their roster with the acquisition of outfielder TJ Hopkins in a trade with the Cincinnati Reds. The deal was announced on Tuesday morning and sees Hopkins joining the Giants organization in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Hopkins found himself designated for assignment by the Reds when they signed catcher Austin Wynnes to a major league contract. During his time in the majors in 2023, Hopkins recorded 7 hits in 41 at-bats, with all seven hits being singles.

The 25-year-old outfielder was originally drafted by the Reds in the ninth round of the 2019 MLB Draft. Before making his big-league debut, Hopkins showcased his skills at Triple-A Louisville, where he compiled an impressive slash line of .308/.411/.514 in 94 games.

This trade comes on the heels of the Giants filling their 40-man roster with recent signings and additions. The team recently added Korean outfielder Jung Hoo Lee, claimed right-hander Devin Sweet, and reportedly secured the services of Tom Murphy. With the inclusion of Hopkins, the Giants' 40-man roster now appears to be complete.

The acquisition of TJ Hopkins further strengthens the Giants' outfield depth and provides them with another talented player who has shown success in the minor leagues. The Giants hope that Hopkins can continue to develop and contribute to the team's push for success in the upcoming season.

Stay tuned for more updates on the San Francisco Giants and their offseason activities as they continue to shape their roster in preparation for the 2024 MLB season.
