The Georgia Bulldogs have made an early statement in the 2024 college football recruiting cycle as they secured the top-ranked recruiting class. On National Signing Day, Coach Kirby Smart and his team successfully flipped five-star defensive back KJ Bolden from Florida State, boosting their class score to an impressive 315.33 points, according to 247Sports.
With a total of 28 commits, including 10 top-100 prospects, Georgia's class is rich in talent. Four players hold five-star rankings in the 247Sports Composite, with IMG Academy cornerback Ellis Robinson IV leading the group. Robinson, considered the top prospect at his position and the third overall talent in the 2024 cycle, committed to Georgia in February and stayed committed despite visits to Miami and Alabama.
At 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, Robinson possesses the ideal physical attributes for a cornerback. His length and speed make him a formidable force on the field, with opposing quarterbacks often avoiding throwing in his direction. Andrew Ivins, 247Sports Director of Scouting, praised Robinson's ability to use the sideline to his advantage while maintaining coverage.
Joining Robinson in Georgia's top-ranked class are linebacker Justin Williams and defensive lineman Joseph Jonah-Ajonye, both holding five-star rankings in the 247Sports Composite. Williams, a standout from Oak Ridge High School in Conroe, Texas, earned the title of Defensive Player of the Year for his district in 2022. Known for his limitless pursuit range and relentless athleticism, Williams is expected to make an immediate impact on the Bulldogs' defense.
The depth of Georgia's 2024 recruiting class is evident, with 24 of the 28 players boasting at least a four-star rating in the 247Sports Composite. This achievement sets the Bulldogs apart from their competitors, as no other recruiting class in the 2024 cycle can claim such depth. Currently, Alabama ranks second with 20 commits holding a four-star rating or higher in the 247Sports Composite.
Georgia's success in securing the top-ranked class for 2024 marks the 16th consecutive recruiting cycle in which an SEC program has finished at the top. Last year, it was Alabama who claimed the recruiting title with a class that earned 328 points from 247Sports. The previous year, Texas A&M set an all-time record with a class that earned 333.13 points, surpassing the record set by Alabama in 2021 with 327.8 points.
The Bulldogs' dominance in recruiting showcases their commitment to building a championship-caliber team. As the 2024 college football season approaches, Georgia's top-ranked class puts them in a favorable position to continue their success on the field and maintain their standing as a powerhouse within the SEC.
