TALLAHASSEE -- Pearson Toomey, a transfer offensive lineman from Furman University, recently visited Florida State University (FSU) as he weighs his options for his final year of eligibility. Toomey, a Jacksonville Beach native, spent Wednesday and Thursday in Tallahassee, exploring the university and program to determine if FSU could be his future football home.
During his visit, Toomey expressed his admiration for FSU, calling it a "really cool place" and acknowledging the positive reputation of the university and its football program. As a fifth-year offensive lineman, Toomey is being considered for a guard position at FSU, where the coaching staff has shown a belief in his abilities.
At 6-foot-3 and 295 pounds, Toomey played left tackle at Furman but is projected to transition to a guard position at the Power Four (P4) level. He spoke highly of offensive line coach Alex Atkins and head coach Mike Norvell, indicating his positive impressions of the coaching staff at FSU.
Toomey is currently considering several potential destinations, with Florida State, South Carolina, Duke, and NC State rounding out his top four. Following his visit to FSU, Toomey plans to visit the Gamecocks before making his decision. The offensive lineman emphasized that the right fit is crucial to him and appreciated that FSU did not pressure him into making a quick decision.
Throughout his college career, Toomey has garnered recognition for his skills on the field. He was a three-year starter at Furman and earned All-Southern Conference 1st Team honors in 2022 and 2023. In 2023, Toomey boasted an impressive 77.7 PFF Grade. During his visit to FSU, he mentioned his strong performance against South Carolina, a program that is also expecting him to visit in the near future.
Toomey's entry into the NCAA Transfer Portal in December attracted the attention of multiple schools, including South Carolina, Texas A&M, Michigan State, Pitt, and USF, among others. While he is not currently ranked as a transfer by 247Sports.com, his visit to FSU suggests that he is a highly sought-after talent in the college football transfer market.
As the weekend approaches, Toomey is set to make his decision soon. Although he has other places to consider, the offensive lineman values finding the right fit for himself and the program. The outcome of Toomey's decision will undoubtedly impact the offensive line at his chosen university and potentially contribute to the team's success in the upcoming season.
