According to a report from Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, the team conducted an interview with Rivera over the weekend to discuss the vacancy.
Rivera was recently fired by the Washington Commanders, having amassed a record of 26-40-1 over four seasons as their head coach. The Rams found themselves in need of a new coordinator after Raheem Morris departed to take on the head coach position for the Atlanta Falcons.
Rivera brings a wealth of experience to the table, having served as the head coach of the Carolina Panthers for nine seasons before his stint with the Commanders. While it has been a while since he worked as an assistant coach, Rivera did take on the responsibilities of defensive coordinator during the final weeks of the 2023 season after firing Jack Del Rio. He expressed his enjoyment in returning to those duties, fueling speculation about potential future coaching opportunities.
Prior to his interview with the Rams, Rivera was also reportedly linked to the Philadelphia Eagles when they were searching for a defensive coordinator. However, the Eagles ultimately hired Vic Fangio, leaving Rivera still available for consideration by other teams.
As the Rams continue their search for the ideal candidate to fill their defensive coordinator position, the interview with Ron Rivera indicates that the team is exploring a range of options and considering experienced candidates with a proven track record in the league. With the upcoming season on the horizon, the Rams aim to solidify their coaching staff to ensure a competitive edge on the defensive side of the ball.
