Former NFL running back Derrick Ward, who was a part of the New York Giants' Super Bowl-winning team in 2007-08, was arrested on Monday in Los Angeles in connection with a series of alleged robberies, according to TMZ. The news has saddened Ward's former teammate and Giants legend, Tiki Barber.

Barber, now a host on WFAN, expressed his disappointment upon hearing about Ward's arrest. He spoke with The Post's Paul Schwartz and shared his thoughts, saying, "It's just sad to hear. He was from a rough environment and it felt like he was at a point in his life where he escaped it. It's shocking because I feel like he got his life right."

The two players were teammates in the Giants' backfield from 2004-06, forming a formidable duo. Barber mentioned that he had kept in touch with Ward during their NFL retirements and had spoken to him as recently as about eight months ago. At that time, Ward had shared his plans to get involved behind the scenes in the movie business.

Ward, now 43 years old, played for the Giants, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Houston Texans during his eight-year NFL career. Despite suffering a fractured left tibia in Week 12 of the 2007-08 season, which caused him to miss the Super Bowl victory over the undefeated New England Patriots, Ward made a successful recovery. He went on to rush for over 1,000 yards the following season and signed a lucrative four-year, $17 million contract with the Buccaneers in 2009.

Details of the alleged robberies in Los Angeles have not been disclosed by authorities at this time. Ward's arrest has shocked the football community, as many believed he had turned his life around after his NFL career. Ward's friends, including Barber, are left saddened and disappointed by the recent turn of events.

As the news of Ward's arrest spreads, fans and peers of the former NFL running back are hoping for more information and ultimately for Ward to receive the assistance he may need during this challenging time.
