In an impassioned plea, renowned rapper and devoted Detroit Lions fan, Eminem, has called upon former Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford to assist his beloved team in securing their first playoff victory in nearly three decades. This heartfelt request was made in a promotional video ahead of the Lions' playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.
In the video, shared by NBC during Saturday's Chiefs-Dolphins game, Eminem reminded Stafford of their past connection, stating, "Stafford, what'd I say? You owe me this favor, bro. I was there for you when you won it. I was right there. I rapped for you Stafford. Bro, I rapped for you!"
Stafford, who spent a noteworthy 12 years with the Lions, unfortunately endured three playoff defeats in the first round during his tenure with the team. However, in 2021, he was traded to the Rams, where he promptly led the team to victory in the Super Bowl.
The Detroit Lions, who currently hold the unfortunate record for the longest drought without a playoff victory in NFL history, have not tasted postseason success since January 1992. Additionally, their last home playoff game took place in January 1994, resulting in a loss against the Green Bay Packers. Since then, the Lions have played seven playoff games, all of which have ended in defeats on the road.
Sunday's playoff game at Detroit's Ford Field, which opened its doors in 1999, marks a significant moment for Lions fans. It provides an opportunity for the team to break the cycle of disappointment and secure a long-awaited playoff victory in front of their home crowd.
Eminem, who has recently made appearances in a documentary about Lions legend Barry Sanders, made a final plea to Stafford, saying, "Can you just let us have this one? Just this one?"
As Lions fans hold their breath in anticipation, the question remains as to whether Stafford's former team will finally overcome their playoff struggles and seize the victory they have been yearning for. Only time will tell if Eminem's emotional plea will reach the heart of the ex-Lions quarterback, now representing the Rams, and provide the long-awaited joy for the Lions faithful.
