According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Tennessee Titans have expressed their desire to interview Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Johnson for their head coach opening. This comes as Johnson has also generated interest from the Carolina Panthers for their head coach vacancy, as reported earlier.

The Titans find themselves in need of a head coach after unexpectedly parting ways with Mike Vrabel earlier this week. With Johnson's name now in the mix, it appears that the Titans are considering him as a potential candidate to lead their team.

Within the Eagles fan base, there seems to be a disconnect between how Johnson is perceived by fans and how he is viewed by those in the NFL. Some fans believe that he is only being considered for these positions due to the Rooney Rule requirements, which mandate that teams interview minority candidates for head coach vacancies.

However, this perspective overlooks Johnson's prior accomplishments, particularly his role in the 2022 season where he gained recognition as an offensive coordinator. Johnson played a crucial part in helping quarterback Jalen Hurts make significant improvements. Additionally, Johnson's track record in developing quarterbacks, such as Dak Prescott and Kyle Trask at the college level, could be enticing for teams like the Panthers and Titans who are looking to maximize the potential of their young signal-callers, Bryce Young and Will Levis, respectively.

It's worth noting that the Panthers and Titans have also requested interviews with other minority candidates, indicating that their interest in Johnson extends beyond just fulfilling the Rooney Rule requirements.

If Johnson does indeed secure a head coach position elsewhere, the Eagles stand to benefit. According to Resolution JC-2A, the team will be awarded two third-round draft picks as compensation for losing Johnson. This could potentially bolster their roster in the upcoming drafts.

As the interest in Johnson continues to grow, it remains to be seen whether the Eagles will have him back as their offensive coordinator for the 2024 season. Regardless, his emergence as a viable head coaching candidate demonstrates his potential and the recognition he has gained in the NFL coaching circle.
