In a bid to address their need for more depth at outside linebacker, the Miami Dolphins have made some significant additions to their roster. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, the Dolphins have signed Bruce Irvin to the 53-man roster and added Malik Reed to the practice squad.

Bruce Irvin, who most recently played for the Detroit Lions, brings valuable experience to the Dolphins' defense. In his brief stint with Detroit, Irvin appeared in two games in December and made an immediate impact, registering a sack, a tackle for loss, and two quarterback hits. Last year, while playing for the Seattle Seahawks, Irvin showcased his skills in 11 games with 10 starts, recording 3.5 sacks, five tackles for loss, and nine QB hits.

As the No. 15 overall pick in the 2012 draft, Irvin has accumulated an impressive 56.5 sacks throughout his career, spanning 140 games.

Joining Irvin is Malik Reed, who had been with the Dolphins during the offseason program and training camp. Reed briefly joined the Las Vegas Raiders' practice squad and active roster before reuniting with the Dolphins. With the Raiders, he appeared in four games this season, tallying three total tackles. In 2022, while playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Reed played in 14 games, starting in two, and registered a sack along with four QB hits.

The Dolphins found themselves in need of reinforcements at the edge rushing position following injuries to key players such as Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb, and Andrew Van Ginkel. These additions of Irvin and Reed will provide much-needed depth and versatility to the Dolphins' outside linebacker corps, allowing for a more effective pass rush and improved defensive performance.

With their sights set on making a push in the postseason, the Dolphins are bolstering their defense in the hopes of solidifying their standing in the competitive AFC. The addition of Irvin's experience and Reed's potential will undoubtedly strengthen the team's overall defensive capabilities as they continue their playoff pursuit.
