MIAMI -- In a significant boost to their defense, the Miami Dolphins have activated cornerback Jalen Ramsey from injured reserve. According to ESPN.com, Ramsey is set to make his season debut in Sunday's game against the New England Patriots.
Ramsey had been sidelined since injuring his left meniscus during training camp in July. He underwent surgery the following day and spent the first seven weeks of the season on injured reserve. However, the Dolphins opened his 21-day activation window on October 18, indicating their optimism regarding his return.
With Ramsey now activated, cornerback Parry Nickerson was released in a corresponding roster move. The Dolphins are confident that Ramsey's return will bolster their secondary and provide a much-needed boost to their defense.
It was initially uncertain whether Ramsey would start in Sunday's game, as fellow cornerback Xavien Howard is dealing with a groin injury. Both Ramsey and Howard are officially listed as questionable for the matchup against the Patriots. Dolphins coach, Mike McDaniel, emphasized the importance of exercising caution with his star cornerback tandem, as the team does not want to risk further harm.
"We have a very good working relationship with them," McDaniel said, referring to Ramsey and Howard. "They understand their value to the team and the potential consequences if they put themselves in harm's way. We have other capable players who can fill their roles if needed."
The Dolphins, currently leading the AFC East by a half-game over the Buffalo Bills, are determined to secure a victory over the Patriots. A win would not only strengthen their divisional standing but also complete a season sweep of their long-standing rivals.
In addition to Ramsey's activation, the Dolphins also faced some setbacks. Safety Jevon Holland has been downgraded to out as he remains in concussion protocol. Furthermore, wide receiver River Cracraft, who began his 21-day activation window on Wednesday, has been ruled out for Sunday's game.
With the return of Jalen Ramsey, the Dolphins are hopeful that their defense will be even more formidable as they aim to extend their lead in the AFC East. Fans eagerly await Sunday's matchup between the Dolphins and the Patriots to witness the long-awaited season debut of the star cornerback.
