In a strategic move, the Arizona Diamondbacks will be implementing a full bullpen day in Game 4 of their matchup against the Philadelphia Phillies. Led by their 2022 All-Star reliever Joe Mantiply, the Diamondbacks will hope to neutralize the formidable duo of Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper in the first inning.

Mantiply, who boasts a career 3.48 xFIP against left-handed hitters and 4.83 xFIP against righties, has shown his versatility this season by pitching as many as three innings and recording at least four outs in seven of his final 11 outings in September. Despite his prowess, Mantiply has struggled against the Phillies' hitters, allowing a career 1.162 OPS in 33 regular-season plate appearances. In his previous Game 2 appearance, he only managed to record one out while surrendering three runs.

Manager Torey Lovullo will have to piece together the pitching staff behind Mantiply, likely utilizing a combination of Slade Cecconi and Ryne Nelson as bulk relievers ahead of their late-inning arms. This gives the Phillies a significant pitching advantage, especially as they start Cristopher Sanchez, who has a 3.77 xERA and 3.09 xFIP.

It is anticipated that Sanchez may not last long against the predominantly right-handed Arizona lineup. He might give way to right-hander Taijuan Walker, who has a 4.42 xERA and 4.83 xFIP, after a turn through the Diamondbacks' batting order.

The Phillies' bullpen holds a slight advantage over the Diamondbacks', with a 3.73 xFIP in September compared to 4.23 for Arizona. Pitch modeling metrics have also favored Philadelphia's bullpen in the second half of the season.

When analyzing offensive performance, the Diamondbacks have exhibited better numbers against right-handed pitchers throughout the season. However, in September, their performance dipped, ranking 26th against righties. On the other hand, the Phillies have a superior offense, ranking ninth against righties in the second half.

In terms of betting odds, the Phillies are favored to win, with a -128 road favorite for the first five innings (F5) and the full game. Betting on the Phillies up to -120 is suggested. The total runs are set at 9.1, and bettors are advised to wager on the under 9.5.

Bryce Harper, who drew much attention in the previous game for his impressive display of patience at the plate, is a notable bet for a walk, with odds at +105. Harper was pitched to conservatively with multiple pitches below the strike zone, resulting in several walks throughout the game.

As the Diamondbacks strategize to limit Harper's impact by relying on left-handed pitchers, it remains to be seen if their approach will prove successful. However, given their cautious pitching, betting on Harper to walk remains an enticing proposition.

As both teams gear up for Game 4, it is sure to be an intriguing matchup. The Diamondbacks' bullpen strategy will be put to the test against a strong Phillies lineup. Fans and bettors alike are eagerly awaiting the outcome of this exciting game.
