The Detroit Lions kicked off their practice week on Tuesday with a positive development: a fully functioning roster. All 53 players were accounted for during the open portion of practice, including key players who missed the previous game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Jonah Jackson, David Montgomery, and Frank Ragnow, who were absent due to injuries, were back on the field. Jackson had been sidelined for three games with an ankle injury, Montgomery missed two games with a rib cartilage injury, and Ragnow sat out last week with a calf injury.
Although their participation level in Tuesday's practice remains undisclosed, fans can anticipate the first injury report dropping on Wednesday afternoon, providing more insight into their progress.
In light of their recent return, Coach Dan Campbell expressed optimism about the trio's availability for the upcoming game against the Los Angeles Chargers. When asked if they would be back on the field, Campbell replied, "Yeah, I think so. We'll see tomorrow when we pad them up, but they've been trending the right way now for a while. So (I'm) certainly hopeful."
Having a healthy offensive line and the return of their lead back holds significant importance this week, as the Lions prepare to face off against the formidable pass-rushing duo of Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack from the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers rank among the league's best with 31 sacks on the season, tied for the second-most in the NFL. However, Detroit's highly-regarded tackles and a potential strong running game could present an exciting matchup on Sunday.
In addition, new receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones made his presence known during the Lions' first practice session of the week. Peoples-Jones, acquired via trade, received praise from Coach Campbell, who emphasized the importance of ensuring the player's readiness before inserting him into the lineup. "We'll get him up to speed with the playbook here, make sure he's good and healthy, and then just see where it is," stated Campbell. "I mean certainly, we acquired him because we think he can help us, but I also want to make sure he's ready, mentally and physically, 100 percent before we do that. So, this week will be big for him."
As the Lions continue their preparations for the upcoming game against the Chargers, the return of key players and the potential addition of Donovan Peoples-Jones injects an optimistic air into the team's prospects. Fans eagerly await further updates in the days leading up to Sunday's highly anticipated matchup.
