Charlotte, NC - Derrick Brown, the talented defensive tackle for the Carolina Panthers, has been named as a replacement for the injured Aaron Donald in the upcoming Pro Bowl games. The announcement was made by the league on Friday, confirming that Brown will be representing the NFC team in Orlando, Florida, in February.

Originally voted in as the first alternate at defensive tackle for the NFC, Brown will fill in for Donald, who unfortunately cannot participate due to an injury. The initial selections for the position included Aaron Donald, Dexter Lawrence, and Javon Hargrave. Brown's impressive performance this season earned him a well-deserved spot in the prestigious event.

A former first-round pick, Brown showcased his skills throughout the season and had a remarkable year. He shattered the NFL's single-season tackle record for a defensive lineman, recording a whopping total of 103 tackles. This accomplishment surpassed the previous record of 98 tackles set by Christian Wilkins in 2022. In addition, Brown almost doubled the franchise record of 67 tackles, which was set by Mike Rucker back in 2002.

Reflecting on his outstanding achievement, Brown expressed his initial goal of breaking the record and humorously mentioned his desire to set it to an unreachable level. "Coming into the season, I just wanted to break the record here," said Brown, adding with a smile, "(Going to) try to set it to where I can't even get it again."

The official Pro Bowl rosters, including starters and alternates, were announced on January 3. At the time of being named an alternate, Brown showed gratitude for the recognition and expressed his ambition to make the team. "I wanted to make the team. I think that's obvious. I played hard. No discredit to nobody else. But, it sucks. I'm appreciative of the recognition, for sure," said Brown.

Defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero commended Brown's exceptional performance, highlighting his disruptive presence and labeling him as the best run defender in the NFL this year. Evero also praised Brown's contribution to the team's success, including his ability to rush the quarterback, create pressures, and demonstrate leadership qualities.

Alongside Derrick Brown, the Carolina Panthers had three other players named as alternates. Brian Burns was selected as the second alternate at outside linebacker, while punter Johnny Hekker and long snapper JJ Jansen earned the distinction of third alternates at their respective positions.

Alternates have the opportunity to participate in the Pro Bowl Games if players ahead of them withdraw due to injuries or Super Bowl participation. The event, taking place in Orlando, will span from Thursday, February 1, to Sunday, February 4. The exciting lineup includes a skills showdown on Thursday and the Pro Bowl Games championship on Sunday, featuring an elevated skills challenge and a thrilling flag football game.
