In a surprising turn of events, a Dallas family is demanding the return of a luchador mask that was last seen on the head of Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce during the Super Bowl afterparty. The family of an eighth-grader, Elijah Smith, asserts that the mask rightfully belongs to their son and holds sentimental value.
During a recent episode of the New Heights podcast, Kelce revealed that he found the mask on the dance floor of a Las Vegas nightclub. Describing it as a transformative experience, Kelce credited the mask as a turning point in the night's celebrations. However, young Elijah Smith has a different side to the story.
Smith claims to have personally handed the luchador mask to Kelce and even took a picture with the Eagles star wearing it. Unfortunately, due to the crowd's chaos, Smith and his friends lost sight of Kelce and were unable to retrieve the mask.
"I saw videos on Instagram this week of him wearing it at the next afterparty he went to, so he clearly never took it off the whole night," Smith stated. The luchador mask holds significance for the Smith family as it is signed by Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie and is considered a good luck charm.
While the Smith family holds no ill will towards Kelce, they are requesting the mask's return before the start of the next season. "It's a lucky mask, and so the Chiefs need the luck. I'm sorry we're not Eagles fans," said Elijah's father, Thad Smith. Elijah himself added, "Last year when I wore it in Arizona, I feel like every single time I put it on, we would score a touchdown."
Kelce, however, was not upset about the situation but was disappointed as the mask holds an autograph from McDuffie. Elijah's mother, Sarah Smith, expressed that it would be "pretty cool" if Kelce autographed the mask and sent it back to them.
Kelce had donned the mask throughout the night to celebrate the Chiefs' Super Bowl victory. The Smith family is hopeful that Kelce will understand their sentiments and return the mask, which has brought them so much luck and joy.
As the controversy continues, the Smith family remains optimistic that their eighth-grader will be reunited with his cherished luchador mask, while also appreciating the momentous victory that led to its acquisition.
