Berea, Ohio - The Cleveland Browns have once again elevated quarterback Joe Flacco from the practice squad, according to the team's announcement on Saturday. While the official starting quarterback for Sunday's game has not been announced, Flacco's previous elevation from the practice squad was followed by him being named as the starter in a recent matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, which resulted in a 36-19 loss for the Browns.
In order to make room on the roster for Flacco's elevation, the Browns made the decision to waive quarterback P.J. Walker. However, given the rules in the NFL, if a player is waived but not claimed by another team, the Browns have the potential to re-sign Walker.
The Browns explained the strategy of moving players back and forth between the practice squad and the gameday roster, stating, "A club can carry up to 55 players on its roster during a given week by elevating one or two players from its practice squad prior to the transaction deadline that precedes the game. The rule allows teams a larger pool from which to select their 47 or 48 game-day active players. Any player elevated from the practice squad for this purpose will immediately revert to his team's practice squad the day following the game."
With a current record of 7-5, the Cleveland Browns are set to host the Jacksonville Jaguars, who boast a record of 8-4, on Sunday at 1 p.m. The highly anticipated game will take place at Cleveland Browns Stadium, where both teams will look to secure a victory and improve their standings in their respective divisions.
