The Green Bay Packers have conducted an interview with Christian Parker, the Denver Broncos' defensive backs coach, for the team's open defensive coordinator job, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Parker, who spent two seasons as a defensive quality control assistant focused on the secondary in Green Bay under head coach Matt LaFleur, recently completed his third season as a defensive assistant in Denver. During his time with the Packers, Parker gained valuable experience working under former defensive coordinator Mike Pettine.
The 32-year-old coach has an impressive blend of scheme and style experience, having worked under various head coaches in both Green Bay and Denver. In 2021, Parker was part of Vic Fangio's coaching staff with the Broncos, followed by a year under Ejiro Evero in 2022. He most recently worked under Vance Joseph in 2023.
Parker has garnered praise for his intelligence, strong work ethic, and ability to connect with his players. Denver Broncos head coach Vance Joseph spoke highly of Parker, describing him as a star and highlighting his rapport with the players.
In addition to his coaching experience, Parker has had the opportunity to work with top defensive backs such as Jaire Alexander, Justin Simmons, and Patrick Surtain II. His knowledge and guidance have contributed to their development as standout players in the league.
This is not the first time Parker has been sought after for a defensive coordinator role. The New England Patriots, led by Jerod Mayo, also recently interviewed him for their own vacancy.
Christian Parker's journey to becoming a sought-after defensive coordinator candidate in the NFL started with his playing career at Richmond, where he spent four seasons. Following his college playing days, Parker transitioned into coaching, accumulating six seasons of coaching experience in the college ranks before entering the NFL in Green Bay.
As the Green Bay Packers search for a new defensive coordinator, Christian Parker emerges as a compelling candidate with a proven track record and the potential to make an impact in leading the team's defense. The interview process will undoubtedly shed further light on his qualifications and suitability for the role.
