KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas City Chiefs confirmed that wide receiver Kadarius Toney and running back Jerick McKinnon will not be available for their upcoming Christmas Day clash against the Las Vegas Raiders due to injuries. Both players were absent from practice throughout the week leading up to the game.
Toney, the Chiefs' second-leading wide receiver with 27 catches, has been dealing with a strained hip, as mentioned in the team's injury report. While Toney's season has not been without its highlights, such as his impressive performance against the Patriots, it has also been marred by costly mistakes.
In the last couple of weeks, Toney found himself penalized for lining up offside, which nullified a potential game-winning touchdown against the Buffalo Bills. Additionally, he deflected a pass to the opposition, resulting in an interception during the Chiefs' attempt to preserve the lead against the Patriots.
On the other hand, McKinnon, who has been a valuable asset to the Chiefs' offense, will also miss the game due to a groin injury. The running back has contributed significantly with one touchdown pass and another touchdown run in the previous matchup against the Patriots. McKinnon currently stands fifth on the team in receptions with 25 and shares the third position in touchdowns with five.
This is not the first time McKinnon has been sidelined this season; he previously missed two games due to a groin injury.
In addition to Toney and McKinnon, the Chiefs will also be without the services of left tackle Donovan Smith, who continues to recover from a neck injury. Smith has already missed the team's past two games, and his absence will be felt as the Chiefs seek to secure a victory against their division rivals.
As the Chiefs prepare for their Christmas Day game against the Raiders, the absence of key offensive players like Toney, McKinnon, and Smith will undoubtedly pose challenges for the team. However, the Chiefs' depth and resilience will be put to the test as they look to secure a crucial victory in their playoff push.
