Since Patrick Mahomes took over as the team's starting quarterback in 2018, the Chiefs had consistently been a force on offense, consistently ranking in the top six in yards and points. However, this season saw a significant drop-off, with the team finishing No. 9 in yards and No. 15 in scoring during the regular season.

Amidst this decline, Mahomes remains optimistic about the team's offensive capabilities heading into the playoffs. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Mahomes expressed his confidence, stating, "Not only in our offense, but in our football team. I feel like we're going to play our best football at the right time."

The Chiefs' offensive slump is evident when compared to their remarkable performance last year. In 2023, they amassed 496 points, but that number dipped to just 371 this season. Despite this, Mahomes believes that the offense can still find another gear in the postseason.

The team's success does not solely rely on the offense, as the Chiefs' defense has been a standout this year. They finished the regular season ranked No. 2 in both yards allowed and points allowed, showcasing their ability to shut opponents down effectively.

While the offense's consistency has been lacking this season, the Chiefs benefit from their extensive playoff experience. Having hosted the last five AFC Championship Games, they are no strangers to high-stakes matchups. Mahomes credits this experience as a valuable asset, stating, "Just being able to rely on our experiences and go out there and be the best team we can be and play our best football and see what happens."

Mahomes himself has proven to be a formidable force in the playoffs. In 14 postseason games since 2018, he has completed 67.3 percent of his passes for 4,084 yards, throwing 35 touchdowns and only seven interceptions. Last year, he led the Chiefs to victory in Super Bowl LVII, completing 72 percent of his throws for 703 yards, with seven touchdowns and zero interceptions.

As the Chiefs prepare to face the Dolphins on Saturday night, all eyes will be on their offense to see if they can reclaim their explosive form. While there are no guarantees, Mahomes' confidence and the team's playoff experience provide a glimmer of hope for Chiefs fans. Only time will tell if they can rediscover their offensive prowess and make another deep postseason run.
