Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Ceedee Lamb is on the verge of creating NFL history this Sunday as he aims to achieve an unprecedented feat in his young career. To etch his name in the record books, Lamb must have a standout performance against the New York Giants, catching at least 10 passes while amassing over 150 receiving yards for the third consecutive game. No other player in NFL history has achieved these milestones in three consecutive games.
Lamb's current trajectory makes him a strong contender for this historic record. In Week 8, he displayed his exceptional skills, securing 12 receptions for 158 yards and two touchdowns against the Los Angeles Rams. This outstanding performance made him the first player in Cowboys history to exceed 10 receptions, 150 receiving yards, and two touchdowns in a single game.
Continuing his remarkable run, Lamb delivered another impressive performance in Week 9, despite the Cowboys falling short against the Philadelphia Eagles with a 28-23 loss. The 24-year-old displayed his prowess, catching 11 passes for an impressive 191 yards. This marked his third game with double-digit receptions and over 150 receiving yards, matching the franchise record held by Michael Irvin.
Lamb's impending achievement is even more extraordinary given the rarity of such an accomplishment within the NFL. Over the past 25 years, only three players have come close to reaching Lamb's milestone. Brandon Marshall (2012), Keenan Allen (2017), and Mike Evans (2019) all managed to achieve 10 catches and 150 yards in two consecutive games. However, none of them were able to extend this record to three consecutive games.
Marshall fell short in 2012 when he was limited to just six catches for 56 yards in his third game with the Bears. Allen showcased his talent in 2017, maintaining the streak of 10 receptions but mustered 105 yards, falling short of the 150-yard mark in his third game. Evans, playing alongside Jameis Winston in 2019, almost achieved the record but concluded his third game with only four catches for 82 yards.
Among the current generation of prolific receivers, such as Tyreek Hill and Justin Jefferson, Lamb stands as the sole player to record back-to-back games with at least 10 catches and 150 yards. If he can replicate this feat in his upcoming game, Lamb will undoubtedly secure his place in NFL history.
Lamb's exceptional productivity comes just under five weeks after he openly criticized the team for lacking an offensive identity following their 42-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The Cowboys have since honed their offensive strategy, making Lamb the focal point of their passing game.
While the Cowboys are heavily favored by 17 points this week – the largest point spread of the NFL season thus far – putting up significant numbers against the Giants may prove challenging. The Giants' defense, although struggling overall, has maintained a commendable pass defense, allowing just 211.6 passing yards per game, ranking them 11th in the league.
As anticipation builds for Lamb's potential momentous achievement, all eyes will be on him this Sunday as he seeks to cement his place in NFL history. With his exceptional talent and recent performances, it certainly seems that Ceedee Lamb is on the verge of etching his name in the annals of the league's records.
