In a surprise move, the Los Angeles Rams have announced that quarterback Carson Wentz will be starting in their regular-season finale against the San Francisco 49ers. This decision comes as the Rams have already secured a Wild Card playoff berth and are opting to rest some of their key players for the upcoming postseason.

The news was confirmed by Mike Garafolo of NFL Media, who reported that Matthew Stafford, the Rams' starting quarterback, will be one of the players getting rested in Week 18. This presents an opportunity for Wentz to showcase his skills as he leads the Rams' offense on the field.

Wentz joined the Rams in early November as a backup to Stafford. Since then, he has had limited playing time, making a brief appearance in the team's victory over the Arizona Cardinals on November 26, where he played three offensive snaps.

The last time Wentz started a game was with the Washington Football Team in Week 17 of the 2022 season. Unfortunately, it was not a successful outing for Wentz and his team, as they suffered a 24-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns. Wentz completed 16 of his 28 pass attempts for 143 yards but threw three interceptions in that game.

Drafted as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 draft, Wentz spent his first five seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles before being traded to the Indianapolis Colts in March 2021. Just a year later, he was then traded to Washington in March 2022. With his start for the Rams in the regular-season finale, Wentz will now have played for four different teams in as many years.

It remains to be seen how Wentz will perform as the starting quarterback for the Rams against the 49ers. This unexpected opportunity could be a chance for him to showcase his talent and potentially secure a more prominent role moving forward. Rams fans will be eagerly watching to see how Wentz leads the team in the final game of the regular season and what it could mean for the Rams' playoff prospects.
