The Buffalo Bills wasted no time in addressing their need for a defensive tackle, as they officially announced the signing of Linval Joseph to their 53-man roster. The move comes just hours after General Manager Brandon Beane expressed a strong interest in adding a player at that position.
To make room for Joseph, the Bills placed Kaiir Elam on the injured reserve due to an ankle injury. Joseph, 35, most recently played for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022, but has an impressive career spanning over a decade.
Selected with the No. 46 pick in the 2010 NFL Draft by the New York Giants, Joseph quickly established himself as a force to be reckoned with. He played a pivotal role in the Giants' Super Bowl XLVI victory, showcasing his ability to perform on the biggest stage. After his time in New York, Joseph went on to play for the Minnesota Vikings (2014-2019), Los Angeles Chargers (2020-2021), and Philadelphia Eagles (2022).
It was during his stint with the Vikings that Joseph hit his stride, earning back-to-back Pro Bowl selections in 2016 and 2017. Known for his exceptional run-stopping abilities, Joseph was once hailed as the NFL's premier run stopper. Pro Football Focus recognized his dominance in run defense, stating that after six weeks in the 2017 season, Joseph led the league with 18 run stops and had an impressive run stop percentage of 16.1.
While Joseph may be entering the twilight of his career, the Buffalo Bills are banking on his experience and expertise to bolster their defensive line. Despite his age, Joseph has shown no signs of slowing down and remains a formidable presence on the field.
In a memorable incident, Joseph unintentionally collided with a FOX Sports sound guy before a game against the Cardinals, showcasing his tenacity and fearlessness on the field.
With the addition of Linval Joseph, the Buffalo Bills are confident that they have secured a valuable asset who will contribute to their defensive efforts. The veteran defensive tackle's track record and ability to stop the run make him a valuable addition to the team as they pursue their goals for the season ahead.
