The Buffalo Bills are gearing up for yet another potential snowstorm as they get ready to face off against the Kansas City Chiefs in their upcoming playoff game. A lake-effect snow warning has been issued for parts of western New York, with the possibility of 1-3 feet of snowfall on top of the recent weekend snowfall.
The previous winter storm that hit Buffalo resulted in the postponement of the Bills' game against the Pittsburgh Steelers from Sunday to Monday afternoon. Despite the challenges, the Bills efficiently cleared the snow-covered field at Highmark Stadium with the help of a large group of snow removal crews, including dedicated volunteer fans. The Bills went on to secure a victory over the Steelers, advancing to the Divisional Round.
While the current lake-effect snow warning is set to expire on Thursday at 7 p.m., it remains uncertain if it will affect the game itself on Sunday night. Head coach Sean McDermott expressed confidence in their ability to handle the weather conditions, stating that they have a well-executed plan in place. McDermott emphasized the importance of communication and ensuring that both players and staff are scheduled appropriately.
As of Tuesday night, the forecast for Orchard Park on Sunday night does not indicate any snow or precipitation. However, temperatures are expected to drop significantly, with a high of 25°F and a low of 9°F. Although it will be a frigid game, both teams have experience playing in such conditions at this stage of the season.
The Kansas City Chiefs recently triumphed over the Miami Dolphins in freezing temperatures in Kansas City, with the wind chill reaching below -27°F. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes demonstrated his skill in adverse weather, leading his team to a 26-7 victory. Mahomes threw for 262 yards and connected with rookie receiver Rashee Rice for a touchdown. Running back Isiah Pacheco also contributed a touchdown, showcasing the Chiefs' strong offensive performance.
On the other hand, the Bills' offense, led by quarterback Josh Allen, displayed their prowess in the win against the Steelers. Allen threw for three touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown to his impressive stat line of 203 passing yards. Despite his exceptional performance, Allen has yet to secure a playoff victory against Mahomes, with a record of 0-2 in their previous matchups, including a memorable AFC Divisional Round game that ended in an overtime win for the Chiefs.
As the Bills continue their preparations for the upcoming matchup, they remain determined to overcome the challenges brought by the weather. With both teams accustomed to playing in harsh conditions, the stage is set for a thrilling encounter between the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs in their quest for playoff success.
