Brent Brennan Named Arizona's New Head Football Coach

In a significant coaching development, Brent Brennan has been appointed as the new head football coach at the University of Arizona. Sources have revealed that San Jose State's current head coach has accepted the position and is expected to arrive in Tucson on Tuesday afternoon.

Brennan brings an impressive coaching record to Arizona, having spent seven successful seasons at San Jose State. In the past two years, he has guided the Spartans to a regular-season record of 7-5 and secured their first-ever three consecutive bowl game appearances.

Under Brennan's leadership in 2022, San Jose State boasted the lowest turnovers in the country during the regular season, with just six. The team's impressive performance resulted in a +12 overall turnover margin, leading the Mountain West Conference. Viliami Fehoko, a standout defensive player, was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year, following in the footsteps of Cade Hall, who earned the accolade under Brennan's guidance in 2020.

Brennan's coaching prowess was particularly evident in 2020 when he led the Spartans to a remarkable 7-1 record. This outstanding season saw them secure their first Mountain West Conference championship and league title since 1991. Furthermore, San Jose State made its first postseason bowl appearance since 2015 and achieved a spot in the final Associated Press poll, ranking 24th.

The team's success in 2020 was highlighted by their impressive winning percentage of .875, the third-best in the program's history and the highest since 1940. Being one of the last four undefeated teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) showcased the Spartans' exceptional performance. Brennan's remarkable achievements were recognized with three first-place votes in the Associated Press' coach of the year balloting.

Before taking the helm at San Jose State, Brennan served as the receivers coach at Oregon State from 2011 to 2016. During his tenure there, he played a significant role in developing a strong passing offense, which consistently ranked among the top 20 in the FBS. Notably, Brennan coached renowned wide receivers such as Brandin Cooks, Markus Wheaton, and James Rodgers, who became the school's career pass receiving leader.

The foundation of Brennan's coaching career began in 1996 at Woodside High School in California. He then gained valuable experience as a graduate assistant at the University of Hawaii, the University of Washington, and the University of Arizona under Dick Tomey. Following this, he served as the receivers coach and recruiting coordinator at Cal Poly from 2001 to 2004, working alongside head coach Rich Ellerson.

With his vast experience and proven success, Brennan is poised to make a positive impact on the Arizona football program. The Wildcats' supporters eagerly await his arrival and the prospect of future victories under his guidance.
