In a surprising turn of events, it seems highly unlikely that Bill Belichick, widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches in NFL history, will be seen on the sidelines during the 2024 season. The head coaching vacancies in the NFL have been dwindling, with only the Washington Commanders and the Seattle Seahawks yet to fill their positions. However, according to a report by ESPN's Adam Schefter, it appears that neither team is currently interested in hiring Belichick.

During a recent appearance on Get Up, Schefter noted, "There are two [jobs] currently left. Seattle, which doesn't seem interested in Bill Belichick. And Washington, which hasn't been interested in Bill Belichick. So every sign right now points to the fact that this hiring cycle is going to come and go without the greatest coach of all time landing a job."

This news comes after the Atlanta Falcons, who had previously interviewed Belichick twice for their head coaching vacancy, surprised many by hiring Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris instead. The Falcons had also considered high-profile candidates such as Jim Harbaugh and Mike Vrabel. It was widely believed that they were seeking a renowned figure to replace Arthur Smith. However, Falcons owner Arthur Blank opted for Morris, a well-respected assistant who is getting his second chance at a head coaching position.

The decision to part ways with Belichick and the New England Patriots came after the 2023 season. While the announcement was made to honor Belichick's accomplishments in New England, it was evident that the move was initiated by owner Robert Kraft.

With the remaining vacancies unlikely to consider Belichick as their head coach, it seems that this hiring cycle will conclude without the presence of the legendary coach on any team. Belichick's absence from the sideline in the 2024 season will undoubtedly be a significant loss for the league and fans alike, as they will have to wait to see if he endeavors to return to coaching in the future.
