In a major blow to the Cincinnati Bengals, quarterback Joe Burrow has officially been placed on injured reserve, ending his 2023 season. Burrow suffered a devastating wrist injury during the team's Week 11 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, resulting in his early exit from the game.
Throughout the season, Burrow showcased his talent on the field, completing an impressive 66.8 percent of his passes for 2,309 yards. He also recorded 15 touchdowns and six interceptions in the 10 games he played. Despite the setback, the young quarterback is expected to make a complete recovery in time for the 2024 season.
With Burrow out, the Bengals have turned to backup quarterback Jake Browning to take the reins for the remainder of the season. Browning will assume starting duties, while AJ McCarron has been elevated from the practice squad to serve as the team's backup. It remains to be seen how the Bengals' offense will adapt without their star quarterback, but Browning and McCarron will undoubtedly have big shoes to fill.
In order to fill Burrow's spot on the active roster, the Bengals have activated running back Chase Brown from injured reserve. Brown suffered a hamstring injury back in October, which sidelined him for several weeks. As a fifth-round rookie, Brown has primarily contributed on special teams this season, with three catches for 7 yards and two carries for 6 yards to his name.
The Bengals will be relying on Browning, McCarron, and the rest of the team to step up and perform under these challenging circumstances. Although Burrow's absence will undoubtedly be felt, the team remains hopeful for a strong finish to the season and looks forward to welcoming their star quarterback back in 2024.
