In a historic moment for the NFL, Sunday's AFC Championship Game will witness a highly anticipated battle between two former league MVPs who are both under the age of 30. Patrick Mahomes, leading the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, will take on Lamar Jackson and the top-seeded Baltimore Ravens in a clash for the AFC crown.

During Championship Wednesday news conferences, both quarterbacks expressed admiration for each other's exceptional abilities. Mahomes acknowledged Jackson's imminent MVP win, stating, "He's going to be the MVP for a reason... He does whatever it takes to win, and that's what the greats do."

This match marks only the third playoff meeting between the current MVP and the reigning MVP in NFL history. The previous instances were the 2018 AFC Championship between Tom Brady and Mahomes, and the 1995 Divisional Round between Steve Young and Brett Favre.

Jackson, when asked about facing off against a two-time MVP in Mahomes, laughed and responded, "He's a great quarterback. Definite Hall of Famer... It's just two greats, two up-and-coming greats going toe to toe like a heavyweight fight."

If Jackson secures the MVP award this season, he will become the second-youngest player (and the youngest quarterback) to win multiple MVP awards in his career. Currently, Jim Brown holds the record for winning MVP awards at a younger age.

Under the guidance of new offensive coordinator Todd Monken, Jackson has elevated his passing game to new heights. His ability to extend plays and find open receivers has been remarkable this season. Moreover, his dual-threat capabilities make defending against him a daunting task.

Mahomes, acknowledging Jackson's development as a passer, recognizes the added pressure of facing another MVP quarterback. "It's challenging... It's a tall task... You've got to go out there and play your best football," he stated.

The Chiefs have a favorable track record against the Ravens, winning three out of their four matchups. However, the Ravens clinched a victory in their most recent encounter in 2021.

Looking ahead to the game, Jackson emphasized the need to focus solely on the AFC Championship and not get carried away with the Super Bowl aspirations. He acknowledged the Chiefs' status as former Super Bowl champions, noting that to become a champion, one must go through a champion.

As these outstanding quarterbacks prepare to take the field, the football world eagerly anticipates a historic showdown. The stage is set for an enthralling battle between Mahomes and Jackson, as they compete to lead their respective teams to victory and secure a spot in the Super Bowl.
