The ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) has unveiled its full football schedule for the 2024 season, featuring the newly added teams Cal, Stanford, and SMU. The expanded 17-team league has implemented a strategic approach to road trips and open dates, ensuring a fair and balanced schedule for all teams.
In an exciting kickoff for the season, Cal and Stanford will open ACC play on the road. The Stanford Cardinal will face Syracuse on Friday, September 20th, while the Cal Bears will take on Florida State the following day. SMU will make its ACC debut a week later with a home game against the defending ACC champions, Florida State.
To create an atmosphere of enthusiasm on their respective campuses, the ACC has carefully assigned strong football brands to the new members for their home openers. Stanford will open ACC play at home on October 5th against Virginia Tech, while Cal will host Miami on the same day.
ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips expressed his excitement about the upcoming season, stating, "The 2024 ACC football schedule is significant for so many reasons. We have our newest members in Cal, SMU, and Stanford, and there will be no shortage of interest in ACC football throughout the season."
The schedule also includes several intriguing matchups. Florida State and Georgia Tech will kick off the season in Dublin on August 24th, followed by Boston College visiting Florida State on Labor Day night, September 2nd. Clemson will open the season against Georgia, a game that promises national championship implications. Additionally, Clemson will face Virginia Tech on November 9th, while Florida State will travel to Notre Dame on the same day.
The ACC will continue to play eight conference games without divisions, ensuring that all 17 teams will face each other at least twice over the next seven seasons. Furthermore, the top two teams in the standings at the end of the season will compete in the ACC championship game in Charlotte, North Carolina on December 7th.
With first-time matchups, traditional rivalries, and a competitive collection of non-conference opponents, the 2024 ACC football season is set to captivate fans and players alike. As anticipation builds, teams are eagerly preparing for their respective challenges and aiming to make their mark in the highly competitive conference.
