In a bid to recapture the magic of its acclaimed "blue sky" era, USA Network is gearing up to reintroduce beloved characters from its past hits in new scripted series, according to a report by Deadline. With the recent streaming success of several 2000s-era USA originals, the network aims to once again engage viewers with its signature fun and breezy storytelling.

The success of shows like Suits, which dominated Netflix earlier this year and inspired a spinoff set in Los Angeles, has encouraged USA to dive back into the realm of scripted series. After pivoting to darker fare such as Mr. Robot and The Sinner, which garnered critical acclaim but not the same commercial success, USA is ready to go back to its roots and bring back the charm of its earlier hits.

The new shows, set to premiere sometime in 2025, will be produced at a budget of $2-3 million per episode, making them more cost-effective compared to many current cable and streaming programs. This approach allows USA to focus on delivering quality content while providing an entertaining experience for viewers.

The network's commitment to producing engaging and successful shows is evident from its remarkable track record in the early 2010s. In 2011, USA enjoyed a peak in popularity with shows like White Collar, Covert Affairs, and Burn Notice generating substantial buzz. Co-president Jeff Wachtel expressed his astonishment at the network's success, highlighting the creativity and marketing prowess of the teams involved, as well as the original vision of the shows.

Fans have already witnessed the return of some iconic characters through reunion movies. Psych, for instance, released three feature-length projects on Peacock, with more reportedly on the way. Additionally, Tony Shalhoub recently reunited with the cast for Mr. Monk's Last Case, which premiered on December 8.

Matt Bomer, who starred in White Collar, revealed in a recent interview with TVLine that there have been discussions about his character, Neal Caffrey, making a comeback. Bomer stated that while various factors need to align, there is a plan in place which holds the potential for an exciting return for Neal Caffrey fans.

Considering the possibility of reviving Burn Notice, the departure of series star Jeffrey Donovan from Law & Order provides a promising opportunity for USA to explore the return of his iconic character.

As USA Network dives back into the scripted series game, fans can eagerly anticipate the return of their favorite characters who brought joy and excitement during the network's "blue sky" period. With a renewed focus on high-quality content and a budget-friendly approach, USA aims to create a new wave of shows that capture the imagination of audiences once again.
