Miami Beach, FL - A Texas man has been taken into custody for allegedly stalking pop star Shakira after a series of concerning social media posts, according to the police. The suspect, identified as 56-year-old Daniel John Valtier from El Paso, Texas, was apprehended outside the celebrity's residence on Monday morning.
Valtier's arrest came following multiple incidents where he targeted Shakira through his social media presence and deliveries to her home. Between late December and the beginning of 2024, Shakira's security team became aware of Valtier's disturbing posts and packages sent directly to the star's house.
In these posts, Valtier falsely claimed to have a relationship with Shakira, going as far as stating that they were married and had a family together. Despite repeated warnings from Shakira and her team, Valtier persisted in his attempts to make contact, allegedly sending her packages containing wine bottles, chocolates, and toys.
The situation escalated further when Shakira's security team discovered a social media post suggesting that Valtier was planning to visit her home in Florida, despite residing in El Paso. This raised significant concerns, prompting the involvement of the Miami Beach Police.
On Monday, as Valtier arrived outside Shakira's residence in a taxi cab, Miami Beach Police swiftly took him into custody. Authorities have confirmed that Valtier has no known connection to the pop star or her family.
Valtier is now facing charges of stalking. However, he did not appear in bond court for his hearing on Monday.
The arrest serves as a reminder of the potential dangers posed by stalking and the importance of maintaining personal security measures. Shakira's case underscores the need for celebrities and public figures to remain vigilant and work closely with law enforcement to ensure their safety.
