In an unexpected turn of events, "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" has been canceled for an entire week as host Stephen Colbert undergoes surgery and recovers from a ruptured appendix. The news was announced via a post on the show's official Threads page on Monday, leaving fans disappointed but understanding of Colbert's health situation.

Apologizing for the cancellation, the post stated, "Sorry to say that I have to cancel our shows this week. I'm sure you're thinking, 'Turkey overdose, Steve? Gravy boat capsize?' Actually, I'm recovering from surgery for a ruptured appendix. I'm grateful to my doctors for their care and to Evie and the kids for putting up with me. Going forward, all emails to my appendix will be handled by my pancreas."

This unexpected health issue marks the second time since the show's return to CBS in early October, after the end of the Writers Guild of America strike, that "The Late Show" has had to go off the air. Just last month, Colbert hosted one episode from his home after testing positive for COVID-19, leading to the subsequent cancellation of the rest of the week's shows.

The canceled Tuesday episode was set to feature actress Jennifer Garner and filmmaker Baz Luhrmann as guests. Notably, musician John Scofield was scheduled to sit in with Louis Cato and the Late Show Band. Wednesday's episode, which was also called off, had former "Late Show" band leader, John Batiste, lined up for a performance while renowned actor Patrick Stewart was set to be the featured guest. Additionally, Thursday's anticipated show would have welcomed iconic singer Barbra Streisand and actor Kelsey Grammer as guests.

While Colbert's absence is undoubtedly disappointing, fans are sending their well-wishes for his swift recovery. It is unclear when "The Late Show" will resume its regular programming, but fans will undoubtedly be eagerly awaiting his return.

In the meantime, the show's production team and CBS are working diligently to reschedule the appearances of the planned guests, ensuring that audiences are not completely deprived of their entertainment fix.

Stephen Colbert's health takes precedence, and his fans are rallying around him, hoping for a speedy recovery. As they eagerly anticipate his return, Colbert's absence serves as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing one's health, even in the midst of demanding schedules and commitments.
