The SAG-AFTRA negotiating committee is on the verge of reaching a conclusive decision as they discuss the latest offer from the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). The outcome of this conversation will likely lead to a final union-side vote on the deal.

Following a lengthy discussion on Tuesday night regarding the AMPTP's most recent proposal, the negotiating team reconvened on Wednesday morning. The exact timing of the final vote remains uncertain at this time. However, a union-side source revealed that the committee is currently determining the details of the final package to be presented to AMPTP president Carol Lombardini for approval. Additionally, the source mentioned that there is one final adjustment related to generative AI that the union side intends to propose, which is not expected to be a deal-breaker.

Once the voting members and alternates of the negotiating committee finalize their votes on the pact, they will officially announce their support or rejection to SAG-AFTRA members, according to another union-side source.

Optimism looms among several sources close to the negotiations, with expectations that the final vote and a potential deal could be reached as early as Wednesday. In fact, SAG leadership anticipates the negotiating committee to vote unanimously in favor of the agreement with the AMPTP, according to multiple insiders familiar with the matter.

During the 10-hour discussion held on Tuesday, the negotiating committee provided an update to its members, expressing gratitude for their patience and support throughout the process.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, speaking during an earnings call on Tuesday, described the studio's offer as "last and final" and stated that it met almost all of the union's objectives. Zaslav acknowledged the importance of recognizing and rewarding creative partners, expressing eagerness to revert back to the business of storytelling. Meanwhile, Disney CEO Bob Iger, in a CNBC interview on the same day, conveyed optimism about resolving the actors' deal promptly. He emphasized the industry's focus on preserving a summer of films and the urgency to act swiftly.

Nevertheless, the negotiating committee's vote represents just one stage in a larger process. As per the SAG-AFTRA constitution, all national multi-employer collective bargaining agreements, including the TV/theatrical deal, must receive approval from the union's national board and subsequent ratification from its membership to take effect.
