Kerry Washington has officially extended her overall deal with ABC Signature, securing her future with the studio. In addition, the hit Hulu dramedy series, UnPrisoned, starring Washington as the lead, has been greenlit for a second season by the streaming platform.

UnPrisoned, produced by Disney's Onyx Collective and ABC Signature, centers around a single mother whose life is turned upside down when her father, played by Delroy Lindo, is released from prison and moves in with her and her son. The series, which earned positive reviews from critics, has become Onyx Collective's most-watched premiere on Hulu, though specific viewership numbers were not disclosed.

ABC Signature's Tracy Underwood, executive vp of creative affairs, spoke highly of Washington and her production company, Simpson Street, describing her as the "gold standard for what a multihyphenate should be - passionate, prolific, and endlessly kind." Under the renewed deal, Simpson Street will continue to develop and produce television projects exclusively for ABC Signature. The company has been based at the studio since 2016 and has previously produced successful shows like Hulu's limited series, Little Fires Everywhere, and the renewed Reasonable Doubt, which will be returning for a second season.

Expressing excitement for the partnership, Underwood stated, "We look forward to many more years of their unparalleled creativity and talent." It is apparent that Washington and her team at Simpson Street have established themselves as valuable collaborators within the industry.

UnPrisoned, which premiered in March, features a talented ensemble cast including Marque Richardson, Faly Rakotohavana, Jordyn McIntosh, Brenda Strong, and Jee Young Han. Created by Tracy McMillan who draws from her own life experiences, the series is executive produced by Washington, her Simpson Street partner Pilar Savone, Yvette Lee Bowser, Lindo, Joy Gorman Wettels, and Jen Braeden.

Kerry Washington, represented by CAA, Washington Square Arts, The Lede Company, and attorney Gretchen Rush, continues to solidify her position as a trailblazer in the entertainment industry. With the renewal of her overall deal and the success of UnPrisoned, Washington's future endeavors are highly anticipated by fans and industry insiders alike.
