Good Burger, the iconic '90s cult classic film, is finally getting a long-awaited sequel - Good Burger 2. After more than 25 years since the original movie hit screens, Kel Mitchell and Kenan Thompson, the beloved burger-slinging duo, are teaming up once again to bring their hilarious characters, Ed and Dex, back to life.

According to Mitchell, the desire to make a sequel has been present since the release of the first film in 1997. Fans of Good Burger still approach him regularly, requesting him to recite the famous line, "Welcome to Good Burger." Mitchell shared this amusing anecdote during an interview with Juana Summers.

The plans for Good Burger 2 came to fruition about two years ago, gaining momentum after the successful Good Burger reunion on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The overwhelming positive response from fans prompted the studios to give the project the green light. Both Mitchell and Thompson took on the role of producers for the sequel, and they collaborated with the talented writers Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert, who also worked on the original film.

One of the recurring requests Mitchell receives from fans is to imitate Ed's distinct voice. He revealed that he actually created the character's voice during his audition for the first movie. Drawing inspiration from his time doing theater in Chicago, Mitchell and his cousins playfully imagined how California kids from Saved by the Bell would talk if they lived in Chicago. The result was the iconic "Woah, dude, yeah!" voice that fans instantly fell in love with.

Aside from the comedy, the heartwarming story of friendship and loyalty in Good Burger resonated with audiences. Mitchell spoke fondly of his friendship with Thompson, describing him as a "brother." The opportunity to work together again after years apart was thrilling, and the camaraderie on set mirrored their real-life bond. Mitchell emphasized that their connection extended beyond the screen, as their families are close and often spend time together.

Reflecting on the enduring appeal of Good Burger, Mitchell attributes its relevance to the underdog narrative. The idea of a small mom and pop restaurant challenging powerful corporations resonates with viewers. Additionally, Good Burger has become a comfort food for fans, evoking memories of the first time they watched the film and creating new memories with the sequel. The family-friendly nature of the movie also makes it a perfect choice for a movie night, catering to viewers of all ages.

With Good Burger 2, the beloved characters of Ed and Dex will once again serve up laughter and nostalgia, as Mitchell and Thompson recreate the magic that captivated audiences more than two decades ago. Fans can eagerly anticipate what the future holds for their favorite burger-flipping duo when the movie hits screens in 2023.
