In a recent lawsuit, actor Jamie Foxx has been accused of sexual assault by a woman identified as Jane Doe. However, Foxx's representatives have swiftly responded, refuting the claims and stating that the alleged incident "never happened." This latest development adds another high-profile name to the list of individuals facing allegations of sexual misconduct under New York's Adult Survivor's Act.
The lawsuit alleges that the incident took place in August 2015 at the restaurant Catch NYC & Roof. According to the woman, Foxx, who was allegedly in an intoxicated state, placed his hands on her waist during a photo-op and proceeded to move them under her top, ultimately rubbing her breasts without her consent.
Foxx's spokesperson has pointed out that the same person had previously filed a similar lawsuit in Brooklyn in 2020, which was subsequently dismissed. They assert that the claims made in the current lawsuit are not any more viable, expressing confidence that they will be dismissed once again.
Notably, the lawsuit comes to light just days before the expiration of New York's Adult Survivor's Act, a significant legislative move that allowed survivors to bring forth civil claims no matter how long ago the alleged abuse occurred. Enacted in May 2022, the act introduced a one-year "lookback window" for survivors to seek justice.
In response to the allegations, Foxx's representatives have announced that the actor is planning to take legal action of his own. They further stated that Foxx intends to pursue a claim for malicious prosecution against the accuser and her attorneys, terming the suit as a "frivolous action."
The lawsuit against Jamie Foxx is one among several high-profile individuals who have recently faced legal action for alleged sexual misconduct. Notable names mentioned in recent suits under the state law include musician Axl Rose, comedian Bill Cosby, football player Marcellus Wiley, New York Mayor Eric Adams, music producer Jimmy Iovine, and fashion photographer Terry Richardson.
As the lawsuit progresses, all eyes will be on Jamie Foxx's legal battle to see whether the claims against him gain traction or are ultimately dismissed once again, amidst a growing wave of sexual misconduct allegations across various sectors in society.
