In an electrifying WWE comeback on New Year's Day, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson made his presence felt by taking shots at both his opponent Jinder Mahal and one of his own movies, Baywatch.
During Monday's Raw Day 1 event, Johnson, who has transitioned into a successful movie career, stepped back into the ring and brought back his trademark catchphrases and larger-than-life persona that made him a beloved figure during his wrestling prime. Not one to shy away from self-deprecating humor, he cleverly incorporated his film misstep into his verbal jabs.
"Nobody likes you, and you're not funny," Johnson quipped at Mahal. "As a matter of fact, if you were one of the Rock's movies, you would probably be Baywatch."
In response to Johnson's playful taunts, Mahal claimed he had never seen Baywatch. However, Johnson continued to poke fun at the movie's lackluster reception. "Well, nobody else did either," he retorted. Baywatch, in which Johnson starred alongside Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, failed to impress critics and struggled at the box office, grossing a mere $58.1 million in North America.
Throughout his tirade, The Rock nearly broke character, momentarily succumbing to laughter before delivering another playful jab at Baywatch. Despite the film's lukewarm reception, Johnson has demonstrated a good sense of humor about it and even received an award from the Razzies, which he willingly accepted with laughter on social media.
Beyond his entertaining verbal sparring, Johnson's appearance on WWE in such a prominent manner has sparked speculation that this may not be a one-time occurrence. He concluded his return by expressing his desire for a matchup against Roman Reigns, hinting at the possibility of more in-ring appearances by the charismatic action star in the near future.
With his larger-than-life persona and undeniable star power, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's return to WWE has undoubtedly injected excitement into the wrestling world, leaving fans eagerly anticipating what's to come.
