After more than 10 years of gripping storytelling and thrilling action, Attack on Titan has finally reached its highly anticipated end. The final season, titled Attack on Titan: The Final Chapters Special 2, has left fans in awe as it wrapped up the journey of Eren, Mikasa, and Armin.

The episode starts off where we last left off, with the survivors converging on Eren to confront him as the ultimate antagonist of the series. Reiner immediately transforms into the Armored Titan, tearing Zeke away from Eren's body. The remaining army at Fort Salva witnesses this clash of Titans, realizing that Paradis Island is fighting against the Rumbling, not alongside it.

The Survey Corps prepares to face their former friend, understanding that peaceful negotiations might no longer be possible. The battle commences with Armin being held hostage by an Okapi Titan, while former Titan Shifters are resurrected to fight for Eren, overwhelming the other soldiers.

Pieck attempts to sever Eren's head using explosives but is only able to wrap ammunition around his neck before becoming incapacitated. The battle rages on, with Connie, Mikasa, Levi, and Jean showcasing their years of intense combat experience. Armin, still incapacitated, witnesses a tear shed by his former friend and ex-Colossal Titan, Bertholdt.

As the soldiers struggle in battle, Jean manages to narrowly save Reiner. However, their gear proves insufficient for both of them, and Reiner, desiring death, urges Jean to let him go. Meanwhile, Levi rescues Connie but suffers a debilitating leg injury from a powerful bite.

In a moment of awe, Mikasa reveals her true power as wings sprout from behind her, belonging to Falco's Jaw Titan. The team regroups, and Falco soars through the battlefield, dropping Reiner and Jean onto Eren's spine to target a detonator left behind by Pieck.

The episode provides glimpses of people praying and animals fleeing as the Rumbling destroys cities and countries worldwide, leaving no survivors. Just when hope seems lost, Armin's storyline takes a surprising turn as he finds himself transported to the realm of the 'Paths.' There, he meets Zeke and engages in a discussion about Ymir and Eren, while former Titan wielders appear, seemingly ready to join the fight for humanity.

In the midst of this, Mikasa finds herself in the Paths with Eren, offering them a peaceful life away from conflict in a new timeline. As they hold each other, aware that their time together is fleeting, the story shifts back to the real world.

Mikasa returns to reality, adorned with her trademark scarf, and prepares to confront Eren. With the help of Levi, she locates Eren's true body in the mouth of a Titan, where they share a profound moment. Eren's decapitated head in her hands, Mikasa plants a final kiss on his lips, while Ymir observes. It is a poignant ending, bringing their story full circle.

The story, however, is not over yet. The 85-minute special continues to unveil more devastating revelations. Armin and Eren, seemingly as children in Shingashina, engage in a conversation where Eren explains the immense power of the Attack Titan to see through time. He reveals his grand plan to free Paradis Island and the Eldians from the curse of the Titans, by becoming the object of hatred and triggering the Rumbling.

Eren discloses that Ymir was bound to Karl Fritz and she agreed to the plan in exchange for the opportunity to kill Eren herself. Armin finally comprehends the weight Eren carried, leading to an emotional embrace between the two friends. This conversation, however, only reveals itself upon Eren's death.

Back on the battlefield, Mikasa presents Eren's head to Armin, and he mourns their irreversible actions, understanding that they are responsible for Eren's demise in their quest to save humanity. Armin assumes the role of Eren's killer, buying Mikasa time to bury Eren properly on Paradis Island.

Following Eren's death, the Titans disappear, returning the wielders to their human form. Levi confronts the spirits of his fallen comrades, Jean and Connie encounter the smiling spirit of Sasha, and fans worldwide struggle to hold back tears.

Three years later, Titans have vanished, the scars of the Rumbling are slowly healing, and the population has undergone a devastating loss of 80%. Historia assumes the role of Queen of Paradis, with a new military operating under the Yeagerist banner, prepared to defend their land and seek retaliation against the Eldians if necessary.

A ship arrives at a Paradis port, carrying Armin, Annie, Connie, Jean, Reiner, and Pieck, acting as ambassadors for peace talks. Gabi and Falco, now grown up, plant trees as a symbol of growth and hope. Levi, now using a wheelchair and wearing an eyepatch, displays his benevolence by distributing candy to a child, a stark contrast to his fierce warrior persona.

Mikasa finds solace next to Eren's small grave beneath the tree where he used to sleep in his youth. She shares news of Armin and the others' return, expresses her desire to see Eren again, and a bird pecks at her scarf before flying away. As the credits roll, viewers witness the passage of time, watching Mikasa age, bring her family to Eren's grave, and eventually succumb to old age, buried with the same scarf.

The series concludes with a man and his dog exploring the remains of Paradis, stumbling upon the transformed tree reminiscent of Ymir's fusion with the Centipede. This closing scene suggests that the cycle may begin anew, possibly leading to the return of Titans and the tragedy they bring.

Attack on Titan has left an indelible mark on its audience with its gripping storyline, powerful character development, and stunning visuals. The finale beautifully brings together the elements of love, sacrifice, and the complexities of human nature that have made the series a global phenomenon.

Fans can experience the entire journey of Attack on Titan, including the Final Chapters, on Crunchyroll. They can relive the epic battles, unravel the mysteries of the Titans, and witness the evolution of Eren, Mikasa, and Armin from young soldiers to heroes of humanity.
