In an exciting revelation during today's PlayStation State of Play, IO Interactive unveiled the first substantial glimpse of their highly anticipated James Bond game, 007 First Light. Set to launch in 2026, this game promises to offer fans a novel origin story for the legendary spy.

The cinematic trailer showcased a young James Bond at the dawn of his career, depicting his early days at MI6. Fans were introduced to fresh interpretations of classic characters including M, Q, and Moneypenny. Adding to the excitement, Lennie James of "The Walking Dead" fame is set to co-star, taking on the role of Bond's mentor, John Greenway.

007 First Light delves into Bond's backstory, revealing a tragic childhood that left him orphaned at just 11 years old. Following this, Bond's youth was spent at various British boarding schools, culminating in his recruitment into the Royal Navy and subsequently, MI6. Players will step into the shoes of a 26-year-old Bond as he navigates the complexities of becoming an agent, sporting an Omega watch and testing Q's patience with his gadget experiments.

The game promises a "story-driven action-adventure" experience, allowing players to tackle challenges using either brute force or Bond's renowned charm. The trailer also hints at a mission targeting a rogue agent, as guided by Greenway, warning "009 is a master manipulator." True to IO Interactive’s roots, the game will feature an array of disguises, reminiscent of their acclaimed Hitman series.

Originally announced in 2020 under the codename Project 007, IO Interactive had committed to creating an entirely new origin story for the iconic spy, separate from any existing films. CEO Hakan Abrak hinted at the possibility of 007 First Light being the first in a trilogy of Bond games. Additionally, fans can look forward to the game's release not only on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, but also on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

As anticipation builds, gamers and Bond enthusiasts alike are eager to see how IO Interactive will bring their vision of a young James Bond to life.
